AFRICA
Travel guides for Africa:
Info and Tips:
Africa is the second largest continent, home to 54 countries. Traveling to Africa is a unique experience and each country is different than the other. Here you can find some general information to help you plan your trip, but keep in mind that it might vary per country. You will find country-specific info per article.
Visas and Documentation: Check visa requirements for each country you plan to visit, as they vary widely. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.
Health and Vaccinations:
- Consult with your doctor about necessary vaccinations, such as yellow fever, hepatitis, typhoid, cholera and rabies.
- Consider antimalarial medication, especially if traveling to regions with high malaria risk.
- Bring a basic medical kit with essentials like band-aids, antiseptics, and any prescription medications.
Safety: Avoid traveling alone at night and be cautious in unfamiliar areas. Keep copies of important documents (passport, visas, insurance) in a safe place.
Currency and Payments: Carry some cash, as ATMs may not always be available, especially in rural areas. Carry USD as you can exchange it easier than EUR. Some countries only accept USD that is issued quite recently.
Local Etiquette: Dress modestly, especially in conservative areas and when visiting religious sites. Be respectful of local customs and traditions.
Language: Many Africans are multilingual, often speaking their native language, a regional lingua franca, and an official language (often English, French, or Portuguese due to their colonial history).
Photography: Always ask permission before taking photos of people or their property.
